
No. 4 EQ Opens Big 12 Championship with Victory over TCU

Baylor pushes past the Horned Frogs in round one and will face Oklahoma State tomorrow
THE RUNDOWN
STILLWATER, Okla. – Top-seeded and No. 4 Baylor equestrian (8-4) pushed past No. 7 and third-seeded TCU with an 11-8 victory on day one of the Big 12 Championship Friday morning at Totusek Arena in Stillwater, Okla.
Baylor will face No. 2 seed and third-ranked Oklahoma State in round two Saturday at approximately 1 p.m. CT for a chance to claim the program's fourth Big 12 title.
The meet started with equitation over fences and horsemanship. The Bears dropped fences, 3-1, with Madison Day securing the lone point with a 172 on Phia.
Meanwhile, the horsemanship team rattled off a 4-1 win. Marley Mainwaring (136 on Whiz), Kacie Scharf (144 on Rolex), Abbi Demel (150 on Snip) and Katie Davis (145 on Rudy) all secured western points to help BU take the 5-4 lead at the half.
In reining, the Bears edged the Horned Frogs, 3-2, with points from Madaline Callaway (138 on Penny), Georgia Smith (140 on Paul) and Carly Salter (133 on Willy).
The Bears closed out the meet with a 3-2 win in equitation on the flat. Shannon Hogue scored a 151 on Puzzle while Caroline Weaver secured a 134 on Tony, and Grace Thiel scored a 159 on Zotti for the Baylor win.
