Baylor horsemanship advanced to the semifinals for the second consecutive year

WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian closed out its 2018-19 season with a run in the horsemanship event bracket in the NCEA National Championship Friday at the Extraco Events Center.
The day started out with reining quarterfinals. Top-seeded Baylor couldn't stop No. 8 South Carolina and dropped the matchup, 4-0. Madaline Callaway led the Bears with a combined score of 206.0.
Then, the second-seeded Bears fell in raw scores to the No. 7 seed Gamecocks in equitation on the flat. After being tied 2-2, the Bears dropped a 911-877 decision to end their season in the quarterfinals. Grace Thiel (220 on Punch) and Rachael Davis (238 on Valducchy) recorded the two points for the Bears.
The Bears closed it out in horsemanship, and they advanced to the semifinals with an 2-2 (858.5-846) upset win over No. 3 Oklahoma State. Kaylee Mellott (219.5 on Shirley) and Kacie Scharf (217.5 on Desi) recorded points for the Bears and moved on the third round for the second-straight year.
The season came to an end in 2-2 raw score fashion against No. 7 TCU. The Bears got points from Abbi Demel (223 on Whiskers) and Kaylee Mellott (225 on Whiz), but BU eventually fell 879.5-851 in combined totals to finish the night.
