Keefer and Dossey combine to shoot 7-under in first round

THE RUNDOWN
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Baylor men's golf is tied for 10^th place after shooting 1-over-par 285 in Sunday's first round of the Nike Collegiate Golf Invitational. The Bears are 15 shots back of the lead with two rounds remaining at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club's Witch Hollow course.

Baylor (+1) is tied with USC (+1) and leads TCU (+2), Stanford (+3), Oregon (+4) and Ohio State (+5). The Bears trail Oklahoma (-14), Oklahoma State (-8), Texas (-6), Clemson (-6), Wake Forest (-5), Georgia (-4), Vanderbilt (-3), Florida (-2) and Duke (E).

BU was led by freshman Johnny Keefer, who carded a 4-under 67 to sit in a tie for second place in the 75-player field, two shots back of Oklahoma's Logan McAllister at 6-under. Keefer was 1-over through six holes, then played the final 12 holes at a combined 5-under with an eagle on No. 11 and birdies on Nos. 7, 10 and 13.

Senior Cooper Dossey shot 3-under 68 and is tied for eighth place after the first round. Dossey played a clean round with 15 pars and birdies on Nos. 8, 11 and 18. Mark Reppe finished strong with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to get to 3-over 74, tied for 54^th place, and Travis McInroe counted the Bears' final score at 5-over 76 in a tie for 68^th place. Colin Kober recorded was even through 13 holes, but played the final five holes at 6-over to post 6-over 77.

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor led the 15-team field in par-5 scoring at 8-under 4.60, ranked tied for 13^th in par-4 scoring at 8-over 4.18 and 15^th in par-3 scoring at 7-over 3.28.
Baylor tied for ninth with 15 first-round birdies and ranked 10^th with 56 pars.
Johnny Keefer is tied for second in the 75-player field in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.25.
Cooper Dossey and Keefer are tied for 11^th in par-4 scoring at 1-under 3.89.
Mark Reppe and Dossey are tied for eighth in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.50.
Dossey's 15 first-round pars tied for the tournament lead, while Keefer tied for 15^th with 13 pars.
Travis McInroe led the team and tied for 14^th with four birdies, while the remaining four Bears all made three birdies apiece.
Keefer made one of 10 eagles in the first round.

STAT OF THE DAY
4.60 – Baylor's par-5 scoring average of 8-under 4.60 led the field. Keefer was 3-under on par-5 holes, while Dossey and Reppe were 2-under, McInroe was 1-under and Kober was even.

Monday's second round begins at 10 a.m. CT with tee times from the first and 10^th tees. Baylor is paired with USC and TCU, beginning from the 10^th tee at 10:40 a.m. Kober is up first, and he'll be followed in 10-minute intervals by McInroe, Reppe, Dossey and Keefer, respectively.
