Keefer and Dossey combine to shoot 7-under in first round

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Baylor men's golf is tied for 10th place after shooting 1-over-par 285 in Sunday's first round of the Nike Collegiate Golf Invitational. The Bears are 15 shots back of the lead with two rounds remaining at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club's Witch Hollow course.
Baylor (+1) is tied with USC (+1) and leads TCU (+2), Stanford (+3), Oregon (+4) and Ohio State (+5). The Bears trail Oklahoma (-14), Oklahoma State (-8), Texas (-6), Clemson (-6), Wake Forest (-5), Georgia (-4), Vanderbilt (-3), Florida (-2) and Duke (E).
BU was led by freshman Johnny Keefer, who carded a 4-under 67 to sit in a tie for second place in the 75-player field, two shots back of Oklahoma's Logan McAllister at 6-under. Keefer was 1-over through six holes, then played the final 12 holes at a combined 5-under with an eagle on No. 11 and birdies on Nos. 7, 10 and 13.
Senior Cooper Dossey shot 3-under 68 and is tied for eighth place after the first round. Dossey played a clean round with 15 pars and birdies on Nos. 8, 11 and 18. Mark Reppe finished strong with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to get to 3-over 74, tied for 54th place, and Travis McInroe counted the Bears' final score at 5-over 76 in a tie for 68th place. Colin Kober recorded was even through 13 holes, but played the final five holes at 6-over to post 6-over 77.
