Men’s Golf Wraps up Day One at Big 12 Match Play Championship

Johnny Keefer Wins Eighth Career Match Play Match
HOCKLEY, Texas – Johnny Keefer closed strong on Baylor's first day at the Big 12 Match Play Championships with a two-up win over Texas' Cole Hammer.
Keefer now has eight-career match-play wins after splitting his two matches on Monday.
The Bears dropped their opening match against Oklahoma State but got solid contributions from a couple of match-play rookies. Sophomore Luke Morgan fell three-down through his first seven holes but battled his way back to tie that match by winning three straight holes at No. 1, No. 2 and, No. 3.
Morgan played alongside senior Mark Reppe who battled his way to a tie match through 13 holes as well before the Oklahoma State team of Brian Stark and Dillon Stewart each rallied to defeat Reppe and Morgan 2&1.
In the afternoon session, Morgan had another strong showing taking on Texas' Pierson Coody. Morgan took a three-up lead through eight holes and had the match at all-square through 14 holes before Coody closed Morgan out for the 2&1 win.
Junior Johnny Keefer led the Bears in the afternoon session battling Texas' Cole Hammer to a two-up victory. The match was close throughout with Hammer taking a one-up lead through four holes and then again after nine. Keefer would get the match back to square on their tenth hole of the match before taking his first lead of the afternoon on the 14th hole. Keefer held a one-up lead on the 18th tee of the match, and closed it out with a birdie putt for the two-up victory.
