Lah qualified in singles, invited as wild card in doubles alongside Bass
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis duo Sven Lah and Finn Bass are set to compete at the ITA National Fall Championships, held in San Diego, Calif., from Nov. 4-7.
Wild card selections for the Championships were announced on Thursday by the ITA. The tournament will be played at the Barnes Tennis Center, hosted by the University of San Diego.
Lah earned an automatic qualification to the tournament in singles play by reaching the finals of the ITA Texas Regionals in College Station on Oct. 19. He was named runner up at the Regionals after falling to Juan Carlos Aguilar of TCU 6-1, 6-3 in the finals. Lah entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed and defeated two seeded opponents during his five days of play, including No. 8 Luc Fomba of TCU, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year. On the fall in ITA singles play, Lah is 5-1.
In doubles, Lah and Bass were invited as a wild card participant to the Championships as just one of two wild card selections. The Bears were the No. 2 seed in the ITA Texas Regionals and made it to the quarterfinals before falling to Texas A&M's Noah Schachter and Austin Abbratt 8-7(3). Lah and Bass are currently ranked No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings. They have gone 4-2 together this fall, having made the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American tournament as well, where they defeated two ranked teams that went on to win their respective ITA Regionals.
The ITA National Fall Championships will feature 32 singles players and 32 doubles teams. This is the fifth year the tournament is being held as it previously replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
The format and schedule for play, as well as live results and streaming links, will be released at a later date.
