
WT Gets Off to Strong Start at SMU’s Red & Blue Challenge

Olivia Malm picks up her fourth singles victory

DALLAS, Texas – Baylor women's tennis put together a solid first day at the Red & Blue Challenge in Dallas on Friday.
After dropping their opening match, the freshmen duo of Olivia Malm and Ana Carmen Zamburek were down multiple match points against Keegan McCain and Jasmin Starr of UTSA. But the Bears clawed their way back to take the 7-6(4) victory.
Brooke Thompson and Hannah Pinto were the other doubles pair for BU, however the duo dropped both of their matches.
In singles action, Malm and Zamburek won their matches in straight sets. Malm finished with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jaeun Lee from UCA, while Zamburek went 6-0, 6-4 over Julia Deming from Kansas. Thompson fought through three sets but fell, 6-4, 1-6, 0-1 (7-10) to Incarnate Word's Lauren Fulgenzi.
Saturday will feature one doubles and one singles match for each of the Bears. Malm and Zamburek will begin their doubles match at 9 a.m., while Thompson and Pinto start at 9:30 a.m. After that, each of the singles matches are slated to start at 10:30 a.m. Malm will face Destinee Martins from Tyler Junior College. Thompson will play Kansas State's Anna Turco. Zamburek will take on Claudia Bartolome from SMU.

- Olivia Malm has a four-match win streak going in singles action. After dropping her first career match last Thursday, the freshman has won four straight. All four of those singles wins have come in straight sets.
- Ana Carmen Zamburek followed up her strong finish at the HEB Invitational a week ago with her second career singles win on Friday.
- Zamburek has now played with three different doubles partners – Brooke Thompson, Mel Krywoj and Malm.
