
WT Sends Two to ITA Fall Nationals

Herrero Linana, Krywoj qualify in singles, doubles
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis had two student-athletes qualify for the ITA Fall Nationals that begin Thursday in San Diego, Calif. – seniors Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj.
The duo recently won the doubles title at the ITA Regionals in Fort Worth to automatically qualify for Nationals. In singles, Herrero Linana was runner-up, which secured her a place in the singles draw. Krywoj will be a second alternate in women's singles as she was a semifinalist at Regionals.
Match play begins on Thursday with Herrero Linana taking on USD's Abigail Desiatnikov at 10:15 a.m. (PST). Herrero Linana and Krywoj will face Christine Canete and Mae Canete of Central Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m. (PST) on Thursday.
Herrero Linana and Krywoj were ranked No. 13 in the ITA's Preseason Poll in September. They became the first Baylor tandem to win the ITA regional doubles championship since Blaire Shankle and Elizabeth Profit in 2016.
As the No. 2 seed in the bracket, they rolled through the opposition by scores of 8-4 (Texas State's Hana Kvapilova and Rishona Israel-Lewis), 8-4 (Houston's Maria Dzemeshkevich and Azul Pedemont), 8-5 (Rice's Diae El Jardi and Federica Trevisan) and 6-2 6-2 (North Texas' Jasmine Adams and Lucie Devier) before taking the championship with a final score of 7-5, 7-5 over Texas A&M's Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova.
In singles, Herrero Linana advanced to the finals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over SFA's Nyah Kauders, a 7-6(3), 6-2 win over UTSA's Aleksandra Zlatarova, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) win over No. 10 Tatiana Makarova of Texas A&M and 6-3, 7-5 over Malaika Rapolu of Texas.
Krywoj won 6-0, 6-0 over Incarnate Word's Lauren Fulgenzi, 6-1, 6-3 over Houston's Laura Slisane and 6-4, 6-3 over A&M's Jayci Goldsmith.
