
BSB’s McKenzie Named a Preseason All-American

Third-year sophomore OF garners second-team honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball outfielder Jared McKenzie has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper 2022 Preseason All-America Second Team, as announced Tuesday by the publication.
McKenzie is one of 81 honorees, which includes 17 first-team, 36 second-team and 28 third-team selections, on the preseason teams.
The third-year sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, hit .383 last season with 10 home runs and 44 RBI. He led the Bears with 82 hits, 62 runs, four triples and a 1.079 OPS in 2021 and is currently the all-time leader in batting average in program history (.389).
McKenzie was previously named a 2021 Third-Team All-American by Perfect Game/Rawlings and was a Second-Team Freshman All-American selection by the NCBWA. He also received Freshman All-American status from CBN in 2020.
Seven different Big 12 schools were represented on the 2022 preseason teams. Texas led the way with seven selections, while Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech joined Baylor with one pick each.
Of the league's 13 honorees, McKenzie is one of seven Big 12 position players recognized, alongside K-State's Dylan Phillips (OF, Third Team), OU's Jimmy Crooks (C, Third Team), UT's Ivan Melendez (1B, First Team), Trey Faltine (SS, Second Team) and Mitchell Daly (2B, Third Team), and TTU's Jace Jung (2B, First Team).
