THE RUNDOWN
PROVO, Utah – With two outs in the top of the seventh, Baylor softball started to rally Thursday night at Gail Miller Field. One run came across for the Lady Bears, thanks to a single up the middle by Aliyah Binford, but that was it as Baylor fell to BYU, 4-1.
Taylor Ellis led off the final frame with a single up the middle before back-to-back groundouts had BU down to its final out. That's when Binford stepped to the plate with an RBI single to put the Lady Bears on the board. Josie Bower then followed with a single of her own before the final out was recorded.
BYU jumped out to a 1-0 lead off a solo shot in the bottom of the first before adding another run off an RBI single in the fifth. The Cougars then doubled their score in the sixth inning.
Binford led the way for Baylor at the plate with a 2-for-3 showing with a pair of singles.
HIGHLIGHTS
14 – Straight games Emily Hott has reached base.
TOP QUOTES
Baylor head coach Glenn Moore on the game…
"I thought we faced a very good pitcher tonight. She dictated what we did for too long. We made adjustments, but they were too late and the deficit was too much to overcome. It's a three-game series, so we have two more chances. I expect to see a better Baylor team tomorrow."
