Annual Award recognizes versatile players within Division I Football
WACO, Texas – Baylor senior running back and special teams standout Tristan Ebner was selected to the 2021 Paul Hornung Award watch list, Thursday, the Louisville Sports Commission announced.
The Hornung Award has been in play since 2010 and recognizes Division I football players that are versatile on the field. Criteria includes a player that plays multiple positions, has a significant role on special teams, a two-way player, and makes a significant impact during big games by elevating a team's performance.
Ebner, a Henderson, Texas native, was a Second-Team All-American by three entities last season and a third-team selection by a fourth, mainly for his special teams contribution to Baylor.
Ebner ranked fourth in the Big 12 in all-purpose yards per game (116.3) last season and added a rushing touchdown to accompany three receiving scores. He had two kickoff returns for touchdown with both coming in the same game vs. Kansas.
He is the only running back in Baylor history to go over 1,000 yards receiving, and headed into 2021, he ranks second all-time among BU running backs with 99 receptions.
In Ebner's 47-game career, he's averaged 60.3 all-purpose yards per contest and scored 19 touchdowns.
The Hornung Award is sponsored by Texas Roadhouse and is a part of the College Football Awards presented by Home Depot. The successful candidate will be presented on ESPN, Thursday, Dec. 9.
