Mark Reppe and Johnny Keefer pace the Bears on tough scoring day

THE RUNDOWN
CARROLLTON – Baylor men's golf is in 5th place after shooting a 7-over-par 295 in Monday's opening round of the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational at Maridoe Golf Club.

On a day where only seven players in the field broke par, The Bears were led by a pair of veterans in red figures. Johnny Keefer came out firing, recording three birdies in his first eight holes on his way to a 1-under 71.

Senior Mark Reppe fired a 2-under 34 on the opening nine of his tournament. After a double-bogey at 12 and a bogey at 15, Reppe closed with two birdies in his final three holes to post a 1-under 71.

After three bogeys on his opening nine, junior Luke Dossey responded with back-to-back birdies at numbers 10 and 11 on his way to shooting a 2-over 74 on Monday.

Drew Wrightson made his collegiate debut shooting a 7-over 79 but closed with a birdie on his final hole of the day. Sophomore Trey Bosco is tied for 69^th after an 11-over 83.

As a team, the Bears currently sit 3^rd among Big 12 teams behind 1^st place Oklahoma (+2) and Texas (+6).

HIGHLIGHTS

Junior Johnny Keefer is tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring, playing them in 2-under, today.
Senior Mark Reppe also had a good day on the par 3's, carrying a stroke average of 2.75 (1-under) through the end of the first round
Reppe is tied for the fifth-most birdies in the field through the first round
Keefer is tied for the ninth-most pars through round one with 13
Reppe and Luke Dossey had 12 pars on the day which is tied for 14^th-best in the field

STAT OF THE DAY
Par-3 scoring – As a team, Baylor is leading the field in par-3 scoring, playing them in an average of 2.85 strokes. The Bears are 3-under as a team on par 3's through round one.

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will play in the morning wave on Tuesday morning with Liberty University and SMU. Trey Bosco is first off for the Bears at 9:00 a.m. followed by Drew Wrightson at 9:10 a.m. Luke Dossey will be in the number three spot at 9:20 a.m., while Mark Reppe and Johnny Keefer will tee off at 9:30 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., respectively.
