Former Bear to serve as director of player development
WACO, Texas – Head baseball coach Steve Rodriguez announced the addition of Steven McLean to the staff as the director of player development on Tuesday.
"We are very excited to welcome Steve back to Baylor and have him join our staff," said Rodriguez. "His passion for the game of baseball and love for Baylor will be a tremendous asset to our team."
McLean, a former Baylor baseball player from 2014 to 2017, returns to Waco after stints as a special projects lead at Equipment Depot and a business development manager at WIN Reality. He also previously served as a graduate assistant for the baseball program while completing his MBA in 2018-20.
"Returning to Baylor and joining the baseball staff means everything to me," said McLean. "I'm beyond excited to continue to represent Baylor and its mission, all the while being a part of the baseball program's success."
In his new role, McLean's primary responsibilities include leading alumni relations and community engagement efforts, as well as assisting in all areas of operations.
During his time as a Bear, McLean hit a combined .268 with two home runs, 43 RBIs and a career fielding percentage of .951. He was named to the 2016 All-Big 12 Second Team after hitting .308 in his junior season with personal bests in hits (62), runs (31), doubles (9), triples (3), home runs (2) and RBIs (24). Additionally, McLean was named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, as well as the 2016 and 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Second Teams.
A native of Los Altos, Calif., McLean graduated from Baylor in 2017 with a bachelor's of business administration in management information systems and completed his MBA in May 2020. He married former Baylor softball All-American Lindsey Cargill in 2018. The couple reside in Waco with their son, Emmett, and two dogs, Rhett and Levi.
