Bears bounce back with five runs in game two
THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Baylor softball split its Saturday doubleheader with Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Getterman Stadium, falling to the Islanders 2-1 in game one and bouncing back for a 5-3 win in game two.
Game 1: Texas A&M Corpus Christi 2, Baylor 1
Dariana Orme started off strong in the circle for game one, striking out six batters through three innings.
Both teams stayed scoreless through four, with Sydney Collazos, Taylor Strain and Aliyah Binford each recording singles in that time.
The fifth inning saw all the action in game one as the Islanders put up two in the top of the fifth for the first runs of the game. The Bears bounced back and cut the lead in half with doubles by Kaci West and Emily Hott, who drove in pinch-runner Caroline Rowatt with Baylor's only run of the game.
The Bears retired the Islanders in order in the sixth before Binford struck out two in the top of the seventh. Baylor wasn't able to plate any runs in the bottom of the seventh and fell to the islanders, 2-1.
Five Bears recorded a hit in game one, including Binford with two.
Game 2: Baylor 5, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 3
The defense was on display in game two as the Bears and Islanders each made flashy plays to stop runners from advancing.
Baylor jumped out early in game two, plating a run in the bottom of the first, when McKenzie Wilson tripled and Sydney Collazos hit a single to bring home Wilson..
Texas A&M Corpus Christi got a run back in the top of the second on a solo home run. The Bears took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Ana Watson scored on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Strain.
Both teams went scoreless through the fifth before the Islanders took the 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth after a fielder's choice and error plated a run and a wild pitch scored another.
Baylor's offense started to come alive in the bottom of the sixth, when the Bears brought three runs home to regain the lead, 5-3. Ana Watson got the scoring started after she singled to lead off the inning and then scored on a error. Emily Hott then doubled to left center, scoring Strain, before Wilson singled up the middle to bring Hott home.
Binford picked up a strikeout in the final inning, with Baylor taking the 5-3 win over the Islanders in game two.
