WACO, Texas – Baylor's
Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi ("Zaza") was named Big 12 Track & Field Men's Athlete of the Week after resetting the national No. 1 mark in the javelin, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
A true freshman from Awka, Nigeria, Prosper Nnamdi is the fourth Bear to win a weekly conference honor this season and sits atop the program record list in the event.
Prosper Nnamdi held the national No. 1 mark for the javelin throw with his 257-3 performance at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, his first-ever collegiate meet. After Virginia's Ethan Dabbs' brief reign at the top of the country Friday night, throwing a 263-10, Prosper Nnamdi sought revenge and threw the javelin the farthest the program and Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium has ever seen to record a 265-11.
According to the USFTCCCA's All-Time rankings, he now sits No. 15 in DI all-time competition for the javelin throw.
Prosper Nnamdi joins the team on its trip to Baton Rouge, La., to compete at the LSU Invitational this Saturday. The men's javelin throw is set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
