Ukrainian native brings strong juniors resume to Baylor roster
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis inked Liubov "Luba" Kostenko for the 2022-23 season, head coach Joey Scrivano announced on Tuesday.
A Ukrainian native, Kostenko is a transfer from Syracuse with three years of eligibility remaining.
"We are very excited to have Luba join the Baylor family," Scrivano said. "She is a determined and mature young lady. She is committed to the process, loves to compete and is highly motivated. She's a great fit for our program and has a bright future at Baylor."
During her junior career, Kostenko competed in the main draw of three of the four juniors grand slams: Australian Open, Wimbledon and Roland-Garros.
She also logged a pair of runner-up finishes to go with four doubles wins – J1 Casablanca (March 2019), J2 Benicarlo (March 2019), J1 Villena (March 2019) and J1 Nottingham (June 2019).
Her career-high ITF World Junior Ranking is 29 (June 2019). Less than a year ago, she reached her career-high WTA ranking at 998 (July 2021).
Professionally, Kostenko finished as a finalist in singles and doubles at the $15K in Ukraine in October 2018.
