FORT WORTH, Texas -- Paula Barañano, Liubov Kostenko and Brooke Thompson had strong showings to highlight the Baylor women's tennis week at the ITA Texas Regionals, hosted by TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Baylor saw Barañano advance to the quarterfinals in singles and Kostenko and Thompson team up to move into the semifinals in doubles over the course of the week.
A native of Argentina and a fourth-year senior, Barañano went 3-1 in singles over the course of the week, advancing to Saturday's quarterfinals matchup. She fell vs. SMU's Hadley Doyle, 6-4, 7-6.
Kostenko, a freshman from Ukraine, went 2-1 on the week in singles, advancing to the second round. She earned her first career collegiate singles win on Friday, besting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Palina Saulevich before taking down 14th seeded Yu-Chin Tsai from TCU.
Freshman Danielle Dimitrov also saw action in singles, falling in the first round but bouncing back to form a dynamic doubles team with Barañano.
Brooke Thompson added a 1-1 record in singles and also competed with Kostenko in doubles. The pair went 3-1 to move to the semifinals before falling vs. UIW's Jasmine Adams and Matilde Morais, 8-7.
The Bears will return to action with individual competition at the $25K Austin and will host their first home tournament of the fall season with the H-E-B Invite Oct. 7-9 at the Hurd Tennis Center.
