Hannah Augustyn and Theresa McCullough record their first goals of the season

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Baylor soccer defeated Kansas State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Buser Family Park.

The Bears got off to a hot start Sunday afternoon, netting their first goal of conference play in the 7^th minute of the match. After Hannah Boughton connected a pass to the left boot of Hannah Augustyn, the sophomore defender lined up a shot to the upper left corner of the net to put the Bears up 1-0.

Five Bears then combined for six shots over the next 12 minutes, before Baylor goalkeeper Ashlee Zirkel was forced to make her first save in the 26^th minute.

Baylor was then able to find an insurance goal in the 36^th minute, when Callie Conrad threaded a pass to Theresa McCullough, who found the back of the net for her first career goal.

Skye Leach got off the Bears last shot of the first half in the 45^th minute but it was out-wide and BU took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

With the 10-4 shot advantage after the first half, Baylor was only able to get off three shots in the second half.

Ashley Merrill and Tyler Isgrig put back-to-back shots on frame in the 52^nd minute, but the KSU goalkeeper came up with both saves.

The Bears defense held strong in the second half, as Baylor picked up its sixth shutout of the season. Zirkel made five saves in goal, four of them coming in the second half.

Baylor picked up its second-straight road shutout of the week.
