WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis had four individuals competing in the ITA Texas Regionals at the Hurd Tennis Center this weekend.
Brooke Thompson opened the qualifying round on Thursday with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over ACU's Masha Vrsalovic, before falling to SFA's Felicia Back, 6-3, 6-4.
On Friday, all four Bears were in action, as Thompson teamed up with
Liubov Kostenko in doubles, defeating ACU's Maria Cascos and Olivia Sears, 8-2.
Isabella Harvison and
Sierra Berry edged North Texas' Olivia Malm and Lilly Schultz, 8-6, in their first doubles outing.
In singles play, Berry, Kostenko and Harvison all picked up wins in the opening round of the main draw, before Harvison advanced 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 over TCU's Isabel Pascual.
The trio of Thompson, Berry and Kostenko eventually fell in their respective matches, leaving Harvison as the lone Bear in competition. In Saturday's round of 16, Harvison came out on top, 6-4, 6-4, over Texas A&M's Jeanette Mireles to advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Harvison battled her way to the victory over UT's Vivian Ovrootsky, 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-2, to advance to the semifinals, before falling to Ovrootsky's teammate, #74 Charlotte Chavatipon, 6-3, 6-3.
Baylor returns to action when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to play in the TCU Invitational, Oct. 27-29.
