Head coach Mike McGraw signs his largest class at Baylor
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's golf signed five players during the first day of the NCAA's fall signing window on Wednesday.
The class consists of players from all over the globe, like Sweden's Vincent Stjernfeldt, but also includes players closer to home like Midway High School's Corbin Null. Head coach Mike McGraw will have a large number of experienced players to replace next season, and he feels like this group will be able to keep the train rolling for the Bears when their name is called.
"We are thrilled with this recruiting class," McGraw said. "They are all going to represent Baylor in the best possible way."
In total, McGraw reeled in three athletes from the State of Texas, one from Indiana and the aforementioned Stjernfeldt from Sweden.
The Swede comes to Waco after a season at Riksidrottsgymnasium Helsingborg, one of two national golf high schools in the country, which produced the likes of 2023 PGA Tour U winner Ludvig Aberg. In 2021, he was selected to the Swedish national team, and played in the 2022 European Team Championship, where they finished third in stroke play and fourth in match play. Stjernfeldt won two Junior Masters Invitationals, the biggest junior golf tour in Sweden. After winning the first stage of Nordic Golf Q-school in 2021, he has played on the Nordic Golf Tour since 2022.
Null is moving down the street after a decorated junior career at Midway High School. The fourth-ranked player in the State of Texas is a three-time First Team All-District selection in addition to a 2023 All-Region selection. As a result, he was named the Super CenTex Player of the Year by the Waco Tribune-Herald in 2023. In total, Null has four wins, including first-place finishes at the 2022 Legends Junior Tour North Texas Classic and the 2022 NTPGA All-American Tour Crown Golf Arlington Junior Open. Throughout his junior career, the Waco native finished in the top-5 in 14 state-level tournaments.
Jackson Hymer comes to Baylor after a strong prep career at Ladybird Johnson High School in San Antonio. As a sophomore, Hymer captured the UIL District 28-6A Tournament title, helping him earn a spot on the San Antonio Express-News All-Area team in 2022. This past summer, Hymer carded four top-10 finishes, highlighted by a win at the SAGA San Antonio Junior Championship. Additionally, he shot 75-72 to earn a spot in the round of 64 at the US Junior Amateur in 2021. Hymer also won at the AJGA Cameron McCormick Junior All-Star, thanks to a final-round 64.
The third Texas product is Martin Kemp of Highland Park High School in Dallas. The two-time captain of the Scottie golf team helped Highland Park to a State Championship in 2021 and a third-place finish in 2022. A four-time winner on the All-American Tour, Kemp also has five top-15s on the Legends Junior Tour and two top-10s on the AJGA Tour. He is also a two-time Texas State Amateur qualifier.
Aidan Gutierrez of Valparaiso, Ind., rounds out the class after a stellar junior career in the Hoosier State. Gutierrez captured the 2022 Indiana High School State Athletic Association State Championship with a final-round 67 to get into a playoff, which he won with a birdie on the third playoff hole. He followed that up with a fifth-place finish in the 2023 state championship on the strength of an opening-round 67 at Prairie View Golf Club. He also carded a tie for 29th at the prestigious Pete and Alice Dye Junior Invitational.
The current Baylor golf team has concluded the fall semester and will return to action Feb. 19-21 at the Prestige in Palm Springs, Calif. For more information on Baylor Men's Golf, follow @BaylorMGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
