Three Bears win third-set thrillers
LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor women's tennis battled Texas Tech on Friday night, falling 4-3 at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Bears fell to 11-11 on the year, and 2-5 in Big 12 action, while the Lady Raiders, who are currently No. 33 in the ITA rankings, improved to 13-6 and 3-2 in league play.
The ranked duo of Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova overcame BU's Daniella Dimitrov and Paula Barañano, 6-2, on court No. 1 to open doubles play, before the Lady Raiders edged Isabella Harvison and Anita Sahdiieva, 6-4, on No. 2 to earn the doubles point.
In singles, Texas Tech jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind wins on No. 1 and No. 2 singles. A victory on No. 5 clinched the match for the Lady Raiders, but #94 Harvison outlasted Cristina Tiglea, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) on No. 3 in her first singles appearance in 10 days.
After falling in her opening set on No. 4, Barañano jumped back in the win column with a thrilling 5-7, 7-6 (0), 1-0 (12-10) victory over Kate Dmitrichenko. Danielle Tuhten also fought her way back from an opening-set deficit, collecting her eighth win of the year at the No. 6 position.
The Bears return to action on Sunday when they travel to Fort Worth to take on the TCU Horned Frogs at 11:30 a.m. at the Bartzen Varsity Courts.
