BU senior Johnny Keefer leads the way for The Bears at 3-under
BRYAN, Texas – Johnny Keefer and Tyler Isenhart got off to solid starts on Monday to lead Baylor into fourth place after 36 holes at the Aggie Invitational in Bryan.
Keefer fired a 3-under 141 to sit in 10th place, while Isenhart also finished under par with a 1-under 143 to tie for 15th through two rounds.
Baylor's score of 2-over 578 is nine shots back of third-place TCU, while Lousiville and former Baylor assistant Ryan Blagg lead by 11 shots at 20-under. Louisville's Max Kennedy is the individual overnight leader at 7-under par.
THE RUNDOWN
First Round
Keefer opened the event with a 3-under 69, which put him in a tie for third after one round. After a birdie-bogey start, the senior reeled off birdies at Nos. 4, 6 and 8 to fire a 3-under 33 on the opening nine. Keefer reached 4-under with a birdie at No. 15 before giving one back with a bogey at No. 15 to sign for a 3-under 69.
Drew Wrightson got off to a great start on Monday en route to a 1-over 73 in the first round. He opened with birdies at Nos. 1 and 3 and added one more birdie to offset a bogey at No. 6 for a 2-under 34 on his outward nine. Following three-straight pars to open the second nine, Wrightson made bogeys at Nos. 13, 14 and 18 to drop back to 1-over for the round.
Zach Heffernan recorded a 1-over 73 in the opening round as well. The sophomore made an early birdie at No. 2 but made bogeys at Nos. 3 and 7 to close out the front nine with a 1-over 37. Heffernan made five-straight pars to open the back nine and got back to even with a birdie at No. 15, but a bogey at No. 17 put him back over par for round one.
Isenhart shot a 3-over 75 in the first round. Opening with four-straight pars, Isenhart made bogeys at Nos. 5 and 7 around a double-bogey at No. 6 but responded with a birdie at No. 9 to close out the front nine at 3-over. Isenhart played his inward half at even par with a birdie at No. 11 and a bogey at No. 12 to finish his first round.
Trey Bosco opened with a 10-over 82 in the first round. After starting four over through his first three holes, he played the final six holes at 1-under with a birdie at No. 6. Bosco made four-straight bogeys on the back nine, followed by a triple bogey at No. 17 to close out round one.
Playing as an individual, Luke Dossey opened with an 11-over 83 to finish tied for 75th after round one.
Round Two
Isenhart shot a 4-under 68 in the second round to climb 34 spots. The senior opened with a birdie at No. 1 but gave it back with a bogey at No. 5. He bounced back with a birdie at No. 5 and added three more at Nos. 8, 15 and 17 to play his final 14 holes in 4-under par.
Keefer shot his third-straight round at par or better with an even-par 72 in the second round. He opened with a birdie at No. 1 and added another at No. 7 to get to 2-under before he made just his third bogey of the day at No. 8. Making the turn at 2-under, Keefer got to 3-under with a birdie at No. 14 but closed with a double bogey at No. 15 and a bogey at No. 17.
Heffernan shot a 2-over 74 to finish Monday in a tie for 40th. An eventful front nine for Heffernan included three pars, three bogeys, a double bogey, an eagle and a birdie that added up to a 2-over 38. The sophomore opened the back nine with a birdie at No. 11 but gave it back with a bogey at No. 14. He played his final four holes at even par with a birdie at No. 15 and a bogey at No. 17.
Wrightson also tied for 40th on Monday after a 2-over 74 in the second round. After a bogey at No. 2, Wrightson got into red figures with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 5 and 6 before closing the front nine with a bogey at No. 8 and a double bogey at No. 9 for a 2-over 38. The sophomore would settle in with an even-par back nine, complete with a birdie at No. 13 and a bogey at No. 17.
Bosco improved by eight shots in the second round with a 2-over 74. The junior bounced back from an early bogey at No. 3 with birdies at Nos. 4 and 7, but a bogey at No. 8 and a double bogey at No. 9 closed out his front side with a 2-over 38. Bosco shot a back-nine 36 thanks to birdies at Nos. 11 and 16 and bogeys at Nos. 14 and 18 to finish tied for 71st.
Dossey improved by 10 shots in round two with a 1-over 73 to pull into a tie for 71st.
