Kostenko picks up her seventh win at No. 4 singles
AUSTIN – Baylor women's tennis (15-12, 3-6 Big 12) closed the regular season with a 6-1 setback at No. 10 Texas (18-4, 8-1 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Liubov Kostenko earned her eighth singles victory of the season, and seventh of the year at the No. 4 position, despite the loss.
A 6-0 shutout by Brooke Thompson and Alina Shcherbinina at No. 3 highlighted doubles play for the Bears, as the duo moved to 5-3 on the year as partners. Texas picked up the point with 6-2 and 6-3 victories on No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Kostenko, Shcherbinina and Daniella Dimitrov each earned opening-set wins on their respective courts in singles action. Shcherbinina and Dimitrov were edged in three sets, while Kostenko battled for the 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Baylor will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the Big 12 Championships next week.
