The award honors collegiate golfers who have overcome adversity
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's golfer Luke Dossey was honored with the 2022-23 David Toms Overcoming Adversity Award announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Friday.
Presented by the AJGA since 2010, the David Toms Award recognizes men's collegiate golfers who have overcome obstacles to excel in the classroom, compete on the golf course and demonstrate high character.
"We are so proud of Luke winning the David Toms Award," head coach Mike McGraw said. "Luke's freshman year was challenging, to say the least. He went through so much physical adversity and handled it all with grace. His perseverance was inspiring to his teammates and coaches alike. Luke has fought his way back to the game, and he is a big reason we made it back to the NCAA Championship this year."
The Austin native collected his career-first win last fall at the Bear Brawl with a 2-under 238 to share medalist honors with his former teammate Brandon Hoff. After playing 36 rounds in his first three seasons on campus, the senior is coming off a year in which he recorded 33 rounds, with 79.2% counting towards the team's score. His stroke average of 73.72 this past season ranks among the top-25 seasons in program history.
Dossey has elected to take his COVID year and return for one final season in 2023-24.
