Bears play five scheduled events in the Lone Star State
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's golf has released its schedule for the upcoming 2023-24 season, announced Monday by head coach Mike McGraw.
The schedule includes nine regular-season events and the Big 12 Conference Championship that returns to Whispering Pines in Trinity, Texas. The postseason begins with one of six regional sites, and after three seasons at Grayhawk Golf Club, the NCAA Championship moves to the Omni LaCosta Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Head coach Mike McGraw likes the way things line up for the Bears next season.
"I love our schedule this coming year," he said. "We have a good mix of tournaments in the state of Texas and around the country as well, giving Baylor golf fans plenty of opportunities to see us play. We are competing against some of the best teams in the nation almost every time we tee it up, so I am happy with that."
BU opens its fall schedule right down the road with its first appearance at the Valero Texas Collegiate in San Antonio, Sept. 9-11, on the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. The Bears finished 11th at the site of the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open during the 2020-21 season after the Cabo Collegiate was moved stateside due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Baylor will then make its 10th trip in 11 seasons to the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club, Sept. 15-17. The host course for the 2003 U.S. Open, BU finished tied for first at Olympia Fields in 2019.
The two-time Big 12 Match Play champions will return to Hockley, Texas, Oct. 9-11, before closing the fall semester with a trip to Oahu, Hawaii, Oct. 30-Nov. 1. The trip to the Aloha State will be Baylor's first since November 2013.
The Bears will open the spring on the west coast Feb. 19-21 with a second-straight trip to Palm Springs and the Prestige, after an eighth-place finish at PGA West in its maiden voyage at the event last season.
A 10th-straight trip to the Cabo Collegiate March 3-5 concludes the west coast portion of the schedule, before returning to the Lone Star State for the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston, March 18-19.
McGraw and company will make a third-straight trip to the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club, April 6-7. BU's best finish in Bryan came in 2017 when they finished second.
The regular season will conclude with a trip to Tempe, Ariz., for the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate, April 12-14. Returning to Papago Golf Club, Baylor tied for ninth in the 12-team field last year with a score of 6-over 858.
The Big 12 Championship will be played at Whispering Pines Golf Club, April 22-24. The site of the 2022 PGA Championship also hosted the Big 12 Championship in 2018, when the Bears finished fifth.
The six NCAA Regional Sites are Austin; Baton Rouge, La.; Chapel Hill, N.C.; Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; Stanford, Calif.; and West Lafayette, Ind., and will be held May 13-15.
The NCAA Championship will take place May 24-29 at the Omni LaCosta Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., and will be hosted by the University of Texas. The Gil Hanse-designed Champions Course is under construction and will be completed before the NCAA men's and women's championships.
The Bears return their entire roster from the NCAA Championship team in 2022-23 and will add freshman Davis Ovard to the mix for the 2023-24 season.
