HONOLULU, Hawaii – Baylor redshirt freshman offensive lineman George Maile has been named to the 2023 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List, as announced Thursday by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
 
The award is presented annually to the most outstanding college football player of Polynesian ancestry that epitomizes great ability and integrity. Maile is one of 85 players from 41 different FBS schools named to the list.
 
George, the son of Ema Maile, hails from South Jordan, Utah, and attended Bingham High School. A 6-3, 304-pound interior lineman, Maile made his collegiate debut in the season-opening win over UAlbany a year ago but redshirted to retain eligibility. He was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 7 offensive guard in the country by ESPN in the class of 2022 and was selected to participate in the Polynesian Bowl in January 2023.
 
Watch list candidates have been selected based on past performance and future potential. Additions to the list will be made as the 2023 season progresses. The winner of the 2023 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award will be announced on Dec. 14. Five finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 30. The presentation of the award will be held during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Celebration Dinner on Jan. 20, 2024, and the winner will also be recognized at halftime of the Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 19, 2024.
