
MGOLF Jumps into a Tie for Seventh in Round Two of Fighting Illini Invitational

BU made the biggest jump of any team in the field on Saturday
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill.– Baylor men's golf moved up five spots in the second round of the Fighting Illini Invitational on the strength of a 1-over 281 Saturday at Olympia Fields.
Johnny Keefer continued his strong play with a 3-under 67 to climb into a tie for eighth with 18 holes to play. The senior's 2-under 138 has him seven shots back of the individual leader, Christo Lamprecht, who leads with a 9-under 131.
North Carolina holds the team lead after round two with a 10-under 550, six shots better than second-place Texas.
THE RUNDOWN
Keefer pushed into red figures early with birdies at Nos. 13 and 15, and after a bogey at No. 16, he made the turn at 1-under. Keefer birdied three of his first four holes on the front nine, interrupted only by a bogey at No. 3. The fifth-year senior had a strong finish to his round with five straight pars.
Trey Bosco rebounded to shoot a 1-over 71 on Saturday and climb into a tie for 44th. The senior dove into red figures early with a birdie at No. 13 but closed his outward nine with bogeys at Nos. 14 and 18 to make the turn with a 1-over 36. Turning to the front nine, Bosco recorded a clean card with nine straight pars to cap his round.
Luke Dossey shot a 2-over 72 en route to a tie for 30th on Saturday. The senior started strong with six straight pars, then added two straight birdies at Nos. 16 and 17. He gave one stroke back with a bogey at No. 18 to make the turn at 1-under. Dossey opened the front side with three straight pars until bogeys at Nos. 4, 5 and 8 put him back over par for the round.
Jonas Appel is tied for 60th following a 1-over 71 on Saturday. Starting on No. 10, Appel carded a birdie right out of the box, but gave it back with a bogey at No. 12. The sophomore jumped back into red figures with a birdie at No. 13 and went to 2-under with a birdie at No. 17, before a bogey at No. 18 dropped him back to 1-over. Appel opened his second nine with four straight pars but closed with bogeys at Nos. 5 and 9.
Zach Heffernan shot a 6-over 76 to settle into a tie for 44th. Heffernan opened his round with four bogeys on his front side at Nos. 12, 14, 15 and 18. His first birdie of the day came at No. 18, and he followed with another at No. 2, before he carded bogeys at Nos. 6, 7 and 8.
