WACO, Texas – For the fourth time in the last five seasons, Baylor baseball will be represented at the World Series.

And this year, it will be no stranger, as Baylor Athletics Hall of Famer and BU baseball legend Max Muncy makes his third-career appearance in the Fall Classic with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Muncy was included as part of the Dodgers' 26-man World Series roster on Friday, as announced by the organization ahead of Game 1, which is set for 7:08 p.m. CT from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Muncy is the eighth different Bear to appear on a World Series roster for a total of 15 times. His third-career appearance ties Dave Danforth (1911, '17, '19) for the most by a Bear all-time.

A native of Keller, Texas, Muncy starred at Baylor from 2010-12 as a Freshman All-American and two-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree. He jumped into the lineup as a freshman in 2010, starting 59 games at first base and hitting .300 with a school freshman-record 11 home runs and 53 RBIs. He hit .322 in both his sophomore and junior seasons with a combined 16 home runs and 100 RBIs, leading the Bears to a Big 12 title in 2012 with 49 wins and a Super Regional appearance.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Oakland A's, Muncy climbed the ranks in the Oakland organization before making his big-league debut on April 25, 2015. After splitting the 2016 season between Oakland and the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, Muncy was designated for assignment and released by the A's towards the end of spring training in 2017. He later signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers, where he'd go on to make two All-Star teams, place inside the top-15 in MVP voting three times, and become the first Bear to participate in the Home Run Derby in 2018.

Muncy notably crushed a walk-off home run in his first World Series appearance, a dramatic 18th-inning game-winner in Game 3 of the 2018 Fall Classic against the Boston Red Sox. On the way to a title in 2020, Muncy hit .250 in 18 postseason games, including a .318 average with a home run and six RBIs in the World Series victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

This postseason, Muncy has set records for the Dodgers, becoming the first player in major league history to reach base 12 consecutive times in a single postseason, which also ties Reggie Jackson's overall MLB postseason record (spanning across two postseasons). Muncy hit his 13th-career postseason home run in Game 2 of the NLCS against the New York Mets to tie a Dodgers franchise record.

Muncy will seek to become the fifth World Series winner in Baylor history, and first two-time winner, as his Dodgers take on the New York Yankees in the 2024 Fall Classic. All games in the series will be televised on FOX, with first pitch times set for 7:08 p.m. CT.

Each of the last three Bears to appear on a World Series roster have won the Fall Classic, including Muncy and the Dodgers in 2020, Shea Langeliers (taxi squad) and the Atlanta Braves in 2021, and most recently Cody Bradford with the Texas Rangers in 2023.
