McGraw’s Texas two-step aims to bolster BU’s roster in 2025-26
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's golf signed a pair of players from the Lone Star State on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA's fall signing window.
Patrick Babb and Tyler Sanford bring decorated junior careers to Waco, making up head coach Mike McGraw's 2025 class. The Baylor head coach looks forward to adding the duo to a talented roster for next season.
"Tyler and Patrick are great players, and excellent students as well," he said. "They will continue our tradition of having Texas-born and raised players on the team. I am really happy with this signing class."
A native of Mansfield, Texas, Babb plays out of Walnut Creek Country Club and Mansfield High School. A 2023 First-Team All-State selection for the Tigers, he entered the fall of 2024 on the heels of some great golf, highlighted by four top-10 finishes in his last five events, including a win at the West Texas Classic in Odessa.
Prior to his stellar summer, Babb closed his junior season at Mansfield with another strong showing, repeating as the District 11-6A champion and finishing third at the 2-6A regional tournament at Bear Ridge Golf Club in Waco. As a sophomore, he earned 6A All-State honors on the heels of a district and regional championship, as well as a tie for eighth at the 6A State Championship. In total, he amassed 11 junior wins over the last three years.
Sanford has an equally impressive trophy case, highlighted by his win at the 52nd Southern Junior Amateur this past June. He shot a second-round 67 to finish third in the stroke-play portion of the 2023 US Junior Amateur at Daniel Island. Sanford then won his first match to advance to the round of 32.
The Montgomery, Texas, native made his way to the US Junior Am by way of 5-under 66 in the qualifier in Athens, Ga. A First Team All-State selection in 2023, Sanford also carded three more top-5 finishes on the Legends Junior Tour this summer, finishing second at the Jimmy Demarat Junior, third at the Winter Classic and fourth at the Texas Cup Invitational.
The current Baylor golf team has concluded the fall semester and will return to action Feb. 17-19 at the Prestige in Palm Springs, Calif. For more information on Baylor Men's Golf, follow @BaylorMGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
