Redshirt freshman running back rushed for 196 yards and four touchdowns in BU’s win over TCU
TYLER, Texas – Baylor football redshirt freshman running back Bryson Washington has been named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
Washington rushed for a career-high 196 yards on 26 carries and scored four touchdowns in the Bears' 37-34 victory over TCU on Saturday. His four rushing scores were the most by a Bear in a single game since 2011, when Terrance Ganaway scored five times vs. Washington in the Alamo Bowl. Washington's 196 yards on the ground were also the most by a Bear since Shock Linwood rushed for 237 at Iowa State in 2016.
A breakout star in the backfield, Washington is the first Big 12 player to score four or more rushing touchdowns in a game this season, and just the 10th FBS player to do so in 2024. His efforts helped BU to 257 rushing yards for the game, marking the third-straight game that the Bears have eclipsed 250 rushing yards, BU's longest such streak since the first three games of the 2016 season. The victory gave Baylor its first home win over TCU since 2014 and first win over the Frogs since 2019.
The award comes just one day after Washington was named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week, his second weekly award received from the conference. This is also BU's second Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week honor in 2024, as redshirt junior quarterback Sawyer Robertson picked up the accolade in Week Eight after his standout performance at Texas Tech.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football, who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity to persist as well as determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. Additionally, the recipient must either have played football at and graduated from a Texas high school and/or be currently playing at a Texas-based Division I four-year university.
