Breakout star running back earns second-team honors from The Athletic
WACO, Texas – Baylor football redshirt freshman running back Bryson Washington has been named a Second-Team Freshman All-American, per The Athletic.
Washington had a breakout season to the tune of 1,004 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 170 carries. He became the first freshman running back in program history to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark, setting the school record for most rushing yards by a freshman, and added 22 receptions for 217 yards on the year. In his 10 games played in 2024, Washington surpassed the 100-yard mark six times, also a program rookie standard.
A native of Franklin, Texas, Washington racked up Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors three times this season, including after a 116-yard, two-TD performance at Texas Tech, following a season-high 196 yards and four scores versus TCU, and after a 192-yard, two-TD performance in the regular-season finale against Kansas. Washington also received votes for the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer and Offensive Freshman of the Year awards, as selected by the league's head coaches.
Washington is one of seven Big 12 freshmen honored by The Athletic this year, and one of five offensive players from the league selected.
The Athletic's Freshman All-America teams recognize both true and redshirt freshmen who made the biggest impact for their teams in 2024, prioritizing production and consistency.
