Newcomer Miska Kadleckova moved to 3-0 in singles action this spring
SEATTLE – The Baylor women's tennis team (2-2) outlasted Washington State (4-1), 5-2, handing the Cougars their first loss of the year on Saturday afternoon.
Baylor earned the doubles point as No. 2 and No. 3 nearly finished simultaneously. Miska Kadleckova and Danielle Tuhten picked up their second-straight win at the No. 2 position with the 6-1 decision, while freshmen duo Zuzanna Kubacha and Zuzanna Frankowska secured the doubles point for the Bears with a 6-2 win on court three.
Sierra Berry and Liubov Kostenko played out No. 1 doubles and battled their way back from a 3-1 deficit to force a tiebreaker before being edged, 7-6(7).
In her first career win, Frankowska powered past her opponent on court six, 6-3, 6-1, to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead in the match. Kadleckova's third win of the season pushed Baylor ahead, 3-0, before the Cougars jumped on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court two.
A straight-set win on court four brought Washington State within one, but Kostenko clinched the win for the Bears with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 position. On the final singles court, Tuhten walked away with the 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory to give BU the 5-2 win.
The Bears return to action tomorrow and face No. 21 Washington at 1:30 p.m. CT.
