BU’s Davis Ovard leads BU with a top-10 finish

HUMBLE, Texas– Baylor men's golf closed with a 3-over 291 to secure an eighth-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate on Tuesday at The Golf Club of Houston.

Davis Ovard served as the standard bearer for Baylor for a second-straight round with a 2-under 70 in the final round. Finishing in a tie for eighth, the freshman reached new heights, carding his first top-10 finish as a member of the scoring lineup. Ovard finished five shots behind Sam Houston's Bret Gray and UNLV's Yuki Moriyama, who outlasted Gray in a playoff for medalist honors.

Texas Tech tied for the second-best round of the day to jump the Bearkats and claim the team title with a 7-over 871, 13 shots ahead of the eighth-place Bears.

Zach Heffernan headlined the All-American Individual with a second-place finish with three-straight even-par 72s, three shots back of Texas Tech's Charlie Delong, who claimed the title. Luke Morgan tied for 12^th with a 9-over 225, just ahead of Luke Dossey's 10-over 226, which was good enough for a tie for 15^th. Sam Dossey's 12-over 228 saw him finish in 18th.

THE RUNDOWN
Ovard played his final seven holes at 5-under on Monday and kept that momentum rolling on Tuesday, finishing tied for eighth on the heels of another 2-under 70. The freshman got off to a patient start to his round with 12-straight pars, before eventually breaking into red figures with a birdie at No. 2 and another at No. 4.

Johnny Keefer finished tied for 21^st with a 4-over 220 for the week. Opening with three-straight pars, Keefer made a double bogey at No. 11 to drop to 2-over. He fought back to even with a pair of birdies at Nos. 13 and 15, before dropping two more shots at Nos. 17 and 18. The senior played his final seven holes at 1-under to finish the day with a 1-over 73.

Trey Bosco shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to finish the event tied for 40^th. Starting at No. 10, the senior made an early birdie at No. 13, but gave it back with a bogey at No. 17 to make the turn at even. After a pair of pars to start his second nine, Bosco made a bogey at No. 3 and a birdie at No. 4 to remain at even par until a final bogey at No. 7 dropped him to 1-over on the day.

Tyler Isenhart also carded a tie for 40^th on the heels of a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. The senior played his first five holes at 2-under par after birdies at Nos. 12 and 13. He gave back a couple of shots with back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 14 and 15 to fall back to even par. Isenhart briefly dipped back into red figures with a birdie at No. 2, but closed with bogeys at Nos. 4 and 7 around a double bogey at No. 5.

Jonas Appel wrapped up his event with a 4-over 76 in the final round to finish tied for 75^th. He got off to a good start with an early birdie at No. 11, but closed his opening nine with bogeys at Nos. 13 and 18. A 3-over stretch at Nos. 3 and 4 dropped him down to 4-over before a birdie at No. 6 got a stroke back for him. One final bogey came for Appel at No. 8 to close out his week with a 14-over 230.

HIGHLIGHTS

Ovard's tie for eighth equaled his career-best finish at Baylor and was his first top-10 finish as a member of Baylor's scoring lineup.
Ovard has lowered his stroke average from 72.56 to 72.19 in his four events this spring
Heffernan recorded his first career top-5 finish at the All-American Individual.
Keefer finished in a tie for 23^rd, meaning he has finished in the top-25 in all six stroke play events this season.
With three more rounds this week, Keefer moved into a tie with Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen for 14^th place on the career rounds played list at BU.
Baylor finished with the second-best par-4 scoring average (4.15).

Head Coach Mike McGraw — "We got off to a really rough start in round one but played solid in the last two rounds. I was happy for Davis Ovard to get his first top-10 finish as a member of our lineup. Zach Heffernan had his best-career finish over in the individual event, so there were some bright spots to take away from this week."
