Bears now await seeding for NCAA Postseason Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Baylor Softball fell against No. 1 Texas, 14-3, in the semifinal round of the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship Friday night at OGE Field at Devon Park.

THE RUNDOWN
The Bears tried to make things happen early on in the game when Emily Hott drew a leadoff walk and Aliyah Binford singled in the top of the first, but that would be all as the Longhorns worked out of the threat.

Texas struck first, plating six runs in the bottom of the first inning off of six hits and a walk, proving why they are one of the top offenses in the country.

Ana Watson walked and Abi Flores singled in the top of the second, but that would be it as a line out into a double play stopped the Bears from scoring.

The Longhorns tacked on six more in the bottom of the second to go up 12-0.

Prelseigh Pilon singled and advanced on a throwing error in the third, before Ava Knoll was able to retire the Longhorns in order in the bottom half of the inning.

Texas hit two home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 14-0 before the Bears were able to get on the board for the first time.

Down to its last chance, Baylor scored three runs in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch and a two-run shot from Shannon Vivoda, but that would be all as the Bears fell 14-3 in five innings.

BU faced the No. 1 team in the country for the seventh time this season

Head Coach Glenn Moore on facing elite offenses like Texas or Oklahoma …
"Yeah, well I hope we get some consideration from the NCAA committee with the seven games against the number-one ranked team in the country. I'm proud of the girls for withstanding that, and we've competed in a few of those. Not well enough to win any of them, but we've competed."

The Bears will wait for their fate in the NCAA postseason with the selection show scheduled for Sunday, May 12, at 6 p.m. CT.
