WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball had two named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region teams, announced Thursday by the organization.
First baseman Shaylon Govan was named to the first team and utility/pitcher Aliyah Binford was named to the second team, which marks the third year in a row the Bears have had a player named to the first team.
A junior from Katy, Texas, Govan leads BU with a .444 batting average, eight home runs and 27 RBIs. Govan is currently on pace to set single-season Baylor records in on-base percentage (.593), walks (44) and batting average. The 2023 All-American leads the Big 12 in batting average and walks, while leading the conference with her .590 on base percentage. Her on base percentage is good for second nationally. Govan also earned All-Big 12 first team honors for the second-straight season.
As a two-way player for the Bears, Binford leads the conference in strikeouts (142) and fifth in the conference in innings pitched with 132.0. She has 27 appearances with 20 starts in the circle. On the other side of the plate, Binford hit .272 on the season with 28 hits, seven doubles and a home run. She earned All-Big 12 second team honors and was named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first-, second- and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2024 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
The 2024 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Friday, May 31.
