
SB’s Govan Named First-Team CSC Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas -- Baylor softball's Shaylon Govan capped off a successful academic and athletic season, earning College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-America accolades, the organization announced Tuesday.
Govan becomes the 13th player in program history to receive CSC Academic All-America honors and is the first since Tiffany Wesley in 2010 to receive first team honors. She is one of 16 members on the first, second or third teams with a 3.75 or higher GPA and is one of six members on any of the three teams from the Big 12 Conference.
The Katy, Texas, native, holds a 3.76 GPA in her Health, Kinesiology & Leisure Studies degree. She is the only Bear to receive both first team NFCA All-America and first team CSC Academic All-America honors in their career.
On the field, Govan led BU with a .444 batting average, 11 home runs and 35 RBIs on the season. This is her second-straight season to reach double-digit home runs, and she holds a .739 slugging percentage, which is good for 4th all-time at Baylor.
She etched her name into the Baylor record books, setting single-season records in walks drawn (48) and on-base percentage (.579) and was second all-time in batting average (.444). Govan also ranked second nationally in on-base percentage, seventh nationally in batting average and 11th nationally in walks per game.
Govan was selected as a member of the CSC Academic All-District team which made her eligible for the All-America honor. The award was voted on by CSC members from a list of All-District honorees.
