WACO, Texas – Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore has added Turiya Coleman to the 2025 roster, announced Tuesday.
Coleman transfers from University of Houston to join the Bears as a senior for the 2025 season. The catcher/infielder spent her first season with Oklahoma before completing the last two seasons with the Cougars.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Coleman was part of Oklahoma's 2022 National Championship team, recording her first collegiate hit, run and RBI against Houston. She finished her freshman season with seven runs and five RBIs.
Spending both the 2023 and 2024 seasons at Houston, Coleman set numerous program records as a two-time NFCA All-Region selection and two-time All-Conference selection. She also picked up preseason All-American honors in 2023.
As a sophomore, she hit .347 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs and broke Houston's single-season record for on base percentage (.503). Coleman led the Cougars in runs (33), hits (56), doubles (11), walks (26), hit-by-pitches (5) and stolen bases (17) in her sophomore season. The power-hitter had 19 multi-hit games, seven multi-RBI games and was the first player in five years to hit multiple grand slams for Houston.
During her junior campaign, Coleman hit .374 with eight home runs, 46 RBIs and a .464 on base percentage. As a Preseason All-Conference player, she recorded 14 multi-hit games and set a new career high with 13 multi-RBI games in 2024. Coleman tied her career high in home runs while nearly doubling her RBI total from 2023 when she collected 26. The Cougars' everyday catcher caught seven runners stealing and tallied 137 putouts on her way to being named All-Big 12 Second Team.
A graduate of C.E. King High School in 2021, Coleman was a four-year letterwinner and garnered first-team All-District honors all four years. She was also named her team's most valuable player four-straight years and was named defensive player of the year twice. Coleman was the No. 5 player in her class by Extra Innings Softball. She was also a three-year letterwinner in basketball during her high school career. In addition, she played for the Texas Impact Gold travel ball team.
Coleman will be pursuing a master's degree in sports pedagogy at Baylor.
