Keefer is the second men’s golfer in program history to win the award
AUSTIN, Texas – With three top-5s in three events on the PGA Tour Americas, Baylor's Johnny Keefer continues to collect awards from his record-setting career at Baylor, named to the College Sports Communicators All-America Second Team on Wednesday.
Finishing with a 3.71 GPA and a degree in accounting, the San Antonio, Texas, native joins Colin Kober (2020) as the only other CSC Academic All-American in program history.
Named the Big 12 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a third-straight year last month, Keefer excelled on and off the golf course, earning second-team All-America honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America and third-team honors from Golfweek, becoming the first player in program history to be named an All-American in three different seasons.
A two-time All-Big 12 selection, he is one of two players in program history to be named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and All-Big 12 in the same season. He has now done it on two occasions (2022 and 2024). He joined Jimmy Walker, Ryan Baca and Kyle Jones as the only BU players to make multiple All-Big 12 teams, passing Walker for BU's career stroke-average mark with a 71.45 in the process.
En route to the best finish by a Bear in the NCAA Championship (t-11th), he established the Bears' 54-hole scoring record with a 12-under 198 at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional. Keefer's second-round 64 in Chapel Hill ranks as the fourth-best single-round in BU history and tied for the lowest postseason round in program history.
Last season, he finished outside the top 25 just once while boasting a team-leading two top-5s, five top-10s and 10 top-25s. Additionally, he paced Baylor in below-par percentage (23.2%), par-or-better percentage (83.8%), total birdies (139), par-4 scoring average (4.02) and par-5 scoring average (4.60).
