Bears take meet from Texans
WACO, Texas – The Baylor Equestrian program finished preseason on Sunday with a scrimmage against Tarleton, winning 19-1.
The Bears took the meet from the Texans, scoring 4-1 in Flat, 5-0 in Reining, 5-0 in Fences and 5-0 in Horsemanship. BU also swept the MOP honors with Madison Mitchell in Flat, Kalena Reynolds in Reining, Annie Vorhies in Fences and Nadalee Vasquez in Horsemanship.
Starting off the meet were Flat and Reining. Riding Demos were Audrey Turner and Nicolette Perry, scoring a 60 on Oxford and 68 on Cowboy, respectively. Starting off in exhibition was Carly Stasio with a 74 on Lily. Madison Mitchell, Juliette Earley, Lauren Jorgensen and Lauren Reid each scored their points for the Bears. Mitchell rode to an 82 on Teddy to earn the MOP for the event, besting Tarleton's 72. Earley had a 76 to beat out the Texans' 63 on Capi, while Jorgensen had a 76 on Grande over TSU's 67. Lauren Reid scored the Bears' final point, securing a 75 on Z over the Texans' 67.
In Reining, the Bears swept Tarleton, with a high score of 72.5 from Kalena Reynolds on Raymond for the MOP. Sadie Peters had a 71.5 on Cowboy over the Texans' 67, Riley Cachat had a 69.5 on Floyd to best TSU's 61, Isabella Hehr had a 70.5 on Penny over Tarleton's 58, and Emily Moomaw finished the event with a 67 on Cherry to beat out TSU's 64.
At the half, the Bears were up 9-1 through Flat and Reining.
To kick off the Fences event, Caroline Muth rode to an 85 in exhibition on Dez. Lauren Jorgensen scored a 78 on Florio which Tarleton's 70 score couldn't touch. Lauren Reid bested Tarleton's 68 on Calvi with an 81 of her own, and Mitchell had a 70 on Puzzle over TSU's 45 for the point. On Lennox, Vorhies earned her point and the MOP with an 82 over Tarleton's 65. To finish out the event, the Texans scored a 0 on Albert with Emma Covarrubias taking the point with a 73. Juliette Earley had the second exhibition on Dez, scoring an 83.
Finalizing the meet was Horsemanship. Olive Holm competed two demo rides on Layla, scoring a 69 and 72.5, respectively. In exhibition, Blaise Runyon had a 72.5 on Lola before Addisyn Albers competed a 73.5 to start the second half. Taylor Smith rode to a 73 to start on Gracie, Tarleton scoring a 63.5. The Texans had a 50 on Zip which was outscored by Carley Rutledge with a 70.5. Alexis Rutledge competed a 72.5 on Mister to top TSU's 66. Anna Thron had a 73.5 on Dillon to overtake Tarleton's 62. Finishing the event was a Texan who scored a 63, falling to MOP Nadalee Vasquez' 71.5.
