WACO, Texas – On the day after a top-10 finish at the NCAA South Central Regional, Baylor sophomore Ruth Kimeli was one of 20 individuals announced as entrants for next Saturday's NCAA Championship in Columbia, Mo.
This marks the third time Kimeli has qualified for an NCAA Championship and her second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship. In Friday's regional in Fayetteville, Ark., the sophomore from Kenya finished eighth with a 6K time of 20:11.4, earning all-region honors for the second year in a row.
"I'm incredibly happy for Ruth and the program to have a second-consecutive NCAA Cross Country Championship qualifier," Baylor coach David Barnett said. "She works incredibly hard and is a great person to work with. It will be a challenging meet, and we're excited for the opportunity to compete."
Capping off an impressive freshman season, Kimeli finished 198th in last year's NCAA Championship with a 6K time of 21:09.9. She also advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing 18th in the 10,000 meters in 33:10.62.
The NCAA Cross Country Championship will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo., with the women's 6K race starting at 9:20 a.m.
