FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second-straight season, Baylor football's Josh Cameron has been nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy, as announced by the award on Tuesday.
The Burlsworth Trophy is given to the most outstanding college football player who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field. Each nominee must have begun his first season of participation with an FBS football program without financial aid of any kind from his university's athletic department.
After joining the Baylor football program as a preferred walk-on in 2021, Cameron has risen from scout-team standout to team captain and breakout star, establishing himself as one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Big 12. He received a scholarship after his first full year with the team, worked his way up the depth chart at wide receiver and became one of the best punt returners in the country, earning All-America honors in 2024.
This season, Cameron leads the Bears with 47 receptions and ranks second on the team with 581 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Cameron ranks inside the top 10 in the Big 12 in all three major receiving categories, in addition to placing 20th in the league with 74.22 all-purpose yards per game. He has gone for at least 34 receiving yards in eight of nine games this year and had a standout performance at SMU in Week 2, catching nine passes for a career-high 151 yards and two touchdowns.
For his efforts against the Mustangs, Cameron was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention in Week 2. Additionally, Cameron was named a second-team All-Texas wide receiver by Dave Campbell's Texas Football at the halfway point of the season. He also owns a spot on the Biletnikoff Award watch list, which honors the nation's top receiver.
The winner of the 2025 Burlsworth Trophy, along with two other finalists, will be recognized at the Burlsworth Trophy Award Show on Dec. 8, at Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Ark.
