
No. 25 WT Bests San Diego in Tight 4-3 Battle

SAN DIEGO – No. 25 Baylor women's tennis (6-1) beat San Diego (4-4), 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center in a hard-fought contest.
 
The Bears picked up their fifth doubles point of the season and garnered wins on Courts Four, Three and Five to gain the sixth win of the season.
 
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the match, the pair of Zuzanna Kubacha and Wenfei Yu had a commanding 6-1 victory on Court Three. The Court Two pair of Na Dong and Sierra Berry started down 0-3, before making a comeback to win the court, 6-4, and clinch the doubles point for BU.
 
In singles, No. 85 Dong continued her dominance in collegiate dual matches, earning a, 6-2, 6-4, win on Court Four. The Toreros responded with Claudia de las Heras defeating Liubov Kostenko, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, on Court Two.
 
In her second match as a ranked competitor this season, No. 117 Kubacha kept her hot streak going taking a 6-3, 7-5 dub on Court Three. On Court One, USD's No. 26 Kailey Evans bested Cristina Tiglea, 7-6 (1), 6-3, to cut BU's lead to 3-2.
 
In a very back and forth match, Kennedy Gibbs clinched the victory for the Bears and was able to pick up a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win on Court Five. Playing through, Yu fell to the Torero's Gabby Gregg 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 on Court Six, but Baylor was victorious, 4-3.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
BU will stay on the road, this time to Champaign, Ill., as they face Illinois on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Atkins Tennis Center.
