Bears matched a season high with 11 hits
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor got on the board first when Presleigh Pilon led off the game with a walk before stealing second and scoring on a single up the middle from Shaylon Govan.
After sitting the Lady Demons down in order in the bottom of the first, Northwestern State evened the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the second with a solo shot over the wall in left field.
Turiya Coleman reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error in the third and Jensen Vienne walked and stole second in the fourth but that would be all offensively for the Bears until the fifth inning.
After a leadoff single from Pilon in the fifth, Coleman walked and Karynton Dawson singled to load the bases with one out. Abi Flores then reached on an error by the centerfielder that scored two runs and gave Baylor the 3-1 lead.
Getting the offense going late, Leah Cran homered in the top of the sixth before Brooklyn Carter laid down a bunt and Pilon hit her first long ball of the season, a two-run shot, to put the Bears up 6-1.
With a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning NSU tacked on one more run but BU remained on top by four runs.
With a five-spot in the seventh inning, Flores led off the inning with a double before Amer Toven walked and scored on a double from Cran. Keeping it going, Brooklyn Crater and Pilon were hit by back-to-back pitches to load the bases for Govan who doubled down the left field line and brought home all three runners. Emry McDonough brought home the Bears' 11th run of the game during the next at-bat when she singled up the middle.
Northwestern State got a couple baserunners on in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bears retained the 11-2 lead and secured the win with a game-ending strikeout from Sadie Ross.
