WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball fell in its series finale against UCF, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Knights took the early lead when they led off the game with a solo shot over the wall in right-center. After a couple more hits UCF brought home another run before the Bears were able to retire the side in the first inning.
Answering quickly,
Turiya Coleman ran the count full before launching a solo shot of her own over the wall in right-center to make it a 2-1 game. With one out in the first,
Shaylon Govan walked and
Abi Flores was hit by a pitch before
Presleigh Pilon reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Flores on a throwing error.
Taking the 2-2 tie into the third inning, UCF adding a single run on another solo shot to go up 3-2.
A two-run home run for the Knights in the fourth put them on top by three runs with work to do for the Bears.
After a leadoff walk was issued to
Amber Toven in the fourth, a two out single from
Emry McDonough and a walk to Coleman loaded the bases. Baylor wasn't able to capitalize with the bases full of Bears as a strikeout ended the threat.
Baylor kept the Knights off of the board in the fifth, but two more runs came across in the top of the sixth after a couple of timely hits and a sacrifice bunt to push UCF's lead to 7-2.
BU kept from scoring in the seventh after a play at the plate tagged out a runner to keep it 7-2 but the Bears weren't able to bring anyone across in the bottom half of the inning and ultimately fell in the series finale.
