Bears late inning comeback bid falls short
WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball's late inning comeback bid fell short Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium as the Bears fell against the Jayhawks, 3-2, during game two of the three game conference series.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor fell behind early against the Jayhawks after a two-run homer in the top of the first.
Down by two runs, Shaylon Govan walked and Leah Cran singled in the bottom half of the inning but that would be all for the Bears.
Kansas added a run to their lead in the top of the second off of a wild pitch to take the 3-0 before the Bears hit into a double play in the last half of the inning after a leadoff walk.
Turiya Coleman hit her first of two doubles in the bottom of the third before Govan was intentionally walked but again the Bears couldn't capitalize.
After retiring the Jayhawks in order in the top of the sixth, Baylor scored its first run of game in the bottom half of the inning after a single from Cran and. Double from Karynton Dawson. After Abi Flores reached on a fielding error the Bears had two on and in scoring position still but a foul out ended the threat.
Reliever, Lillie Walker struck out her fifth batter of the game in the top of the seventh and kept the Jayhawks off the board for the fifth-straight inning.
Down to its last set of outs, Baylor scored its second run of the game after a bases loaded walk but ultimately fell after a groundout to the pitcher ended the threat and Kansas took game two, 3-2.
