Bears record season-high 19 hits in victory

TEMPE, Ariz. – Baylor Softball crushed Arizona State in the series finale, 12-3, Saturday afternoon at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

THE RUNDOWN
The Bears kicked off the game with a run in the top of the first after a leadoff infield single from Presleigh Pilon and a single down the third base line from Shaylon Govan scored Pilon, but ASU would take a 2-1 lead in the home half of the inning.

Pilon and Faith Piper recorded back-to-back infield singles in the second, but BU wasn't able to bring any runs home before the Sun Devils took a 3-1 lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the second.

After Sadie Ross entered to pitch in the second and helped retire three-straight, the Bears bounced back in the top of the third. Govan singled to lead off the inning, then Turiya Coleman ripped a one-out triple to right-center to cut ASU's lead to just one run. Tying the game at 3-3, Karynton Dawson recorded a sacrifice fly before the Bears ended the inning.

Sitting the Sun Devils down in order in the bottom of the third, Baylor plated four in the top of the fourth to re-take the lead. With one out, Pilon and Govan walked, and Brooklyn Carter singled to load the bases before a two-out error cleared the bases and had Coleman standing on third. With the 6-3 lead, Dawson brought home Baylor's seventh run of the game when she singled up the middle.

Heading to the fifth, Baylor plated three more runs with one out. To get things started, Piper doubled before scoring on a throwing error after a single from Pilon. With the 8-3 lead, Carter recorded an inside the park home run when she laced one down the left-field line which brought home Pilon to push the Bears' lead to 10-3.

Keeping the Sun Devils off of the board in the bottom of the fifth, Ashlyn Wachtendorf started the top of the sixth off with a double to centerfield before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt. Pilon continued her hot streak next, doubling to left-center and giving Baylor an 11-3 lead. For the Bears' 12^th run of the game, Pilon stole home after an infield single from Carter.

Ending the game in six innings, Ross got the game-ending strikeout to give Baylor the series finale win.
