TULSA, Okla.— Baylor men's golf will tee it up at the Big 12 Championship on Tuesday morning at Southern Hills Country Club.
The famed Tulsa track has hosted eight men's majors and seven more United States Amateur Championships. Ponca City, Okla., native and Baylor head coach
Mike McGraw has no shortage of experience around Southern Hills, and he looks forward to taking his team to a place with such a rich golf history.
"We have a unique opportunity to play some great courses for this championship and Southern Hills is certainly one of them," he said. "I've spent many years and many competitive rounds around this place, and it's a major championship venue for a reason, so we're excited about the opportunity. For our team, we've seen flashes of good golf and what we can be this season; I just want to see us put that together for 72 holes this week."
Zach Heffernan will tee it up at the No. 1 spot for the seventh time this season. The senior is coming off his best Big 12 performance last year at Whispering Pines, where he finished tied for 28
th.
Jonas Appel will play at No. 2 this week. Coming off a tie for 28
th at the Aggie Invitational, the junior carded his career-best finish the last time BU was in Tulsa, tying for fifth at the Clerico.
Drew Wrightson will play out of the No. 3 position this week. Making his third start in the Big 12 Championship, Wrightson put together one of the best tournaments of his career two years ago at the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes. The redshirt junior rode a second-round 65 to a Big 12 All-Tournament team appearance that season and a tie for sixth.
Davis Ovard will play at No. 4 on the heels of a tie for 18
th in his Big 12 debut a season ago. After struggling a bit in the fall, the sophomore looks to be regaining his freshman form, improving his stroke average by nearly two shots since the calendar flipped to 2025.
Vincent Stjernfeldt is the lone player in the lineup without Big 12 Championship experience and will go at No. 5. The freshman is hoping to regain some good vibes in Tulsa as he shot an opening-round 68 at the Clerico in October.
By virtue of its ranking and head-to-head record, No. 13 seed Baylor needs to win the Big 12 Championship to earn an NCAA Tournament berth. The Bears have qualified for 25 of the last 26 NCAA postseasons.
The 72-hole championship will feature 36 holes of continuous play, beginning on Tuesday morning. The subsequent days will feature 18 holes per day through Thursday.
