W: Walker, Lillie (9-7)
L: Madison Azua (19-7)
WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball shut out Texas State, 6-0, Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium. The Bears are now 23-23 on the season and 8-10 in conference, heading into another weekend of conference play.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off strong,
Lillie Walker took a perfect game into the fourth inning, as she retired the first 10 batters of the game, picking up three strikeouts in that time.
Baylor got on the board first as they started a two-out rally in the bottom of the first which was kickstarted by a walk to
Shaylon Govan. Govan's walk set a new Baylor all-time record in career walks as she now has 134 at Baylor. Following the walk,
Turiya Coleman doubled before a two-RBI triple from
Karynton Dawson put Baylor on the board. With Dawson now on third,
Abi Flores singled to bring home the Bears' third run of the game.
Adding three more in the bottom of the second,
Faith Piper tripled down the left field line before a double from
Presleigh Pilon brought her home. Adding its fifth and sixth runs of the game on an error and a groundout, Baylor took the 6-0 lead in the second.
After allowing Texas State its first hit of the game in the fourth inning, Baylor didn't have anything going offensively until the bottom of the fifth when the Bears loaded the bases with a couple of singles and a walk but no runs would come home as BU kept the six-run advantage.
The Bears allowed the Bobcats leadoff batter in the sixth to reach on an error before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt but Dawson who made a diving catch in foul territory stopped the threat.
Baylor ended the game how it started, by retiring Texas State in order, which included an over the back grab on the run by centerfielder
Brooklyn Carter.
