DALLAS – Baylor baseball sixth-year senior right-handed pitcher Gabe Craig has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List, as announced Wednesday by the organization.
Fifty-six of the nation's top relief pitchers were included on the midseason list for the 20th annual award, which recognizes the best reliever in college baseball. Pitchers from 21 different conferences were represented on the watch list, including five from the Big 12: Craig, Oklahoma State's Sean Youngerman, TCU's Kade Eudy, West Virginia's Reese Bassinger and West Virginia's Chase Meyer.
In 17 appearances so far this season, Craig has been outstanding out of the BU bullpen with a 2-0 record and a 0.95 ERA. He has earned six saves and struck out 30 batters while walking just two across 19 innings of work. Craig owns an impressive 0.53 WHIP, having allowed just eight hits, and has held opponents to a .129 batting average.
Fifteen of Craig's 17 outings this season have been scoreless, and an additional 11 appearances of his have been hitless. The native of Tyler, Texas, has racked up multiple strikeouts in 11 outings, including a stretch of eight-consecutive strikeouts across three appearances in mid-March.
Craig's six saves rank as the second-most in the Big 12 and places 32nd in the country. His 13 games finished are the most in the Big 12 this year.
