Tiglea wins first weekly award of the year for BU
IRVING, Texas – Baylor's Cristina Tiglea was named Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week after BU's 2-0 weekend slate over Arizona and Arizona State, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Winning the award for the third time in her career, the first time at Baylor, Tiglea went 2-0 in doubles and 1-0 in singles across The Grand Canyon State.
In Tucson, Tiglea and Liubov Kostenko defeated the Wildcats' Danielle Tuhten and Josie Usereau, 6-1, at the first doubles court to help with BU's 4-0 sweep of Arizona. Her singles match against Midori Castillo-Meza was abandoned in the second set.
On Sunday in Tempe, Tiglea's match sealed the win for Baylor, picking up a hard-fought victory over 42nd-ranked Emilija Tverijonaite, 6-7(6), 7-6(3), 6-4, while the dual match was tied at 3-all. She and Kostenko also were the Bears' lone doubles win of the day with a 6-2 decision over Patricija Spaka and Karin Altori.
The Bears return to Waco for Senior Day, hosting No. 40 TCU at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
