BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After a successful Big 12 Championship, Baylor track & field is ready to compete enter the madness at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, held in College Station at E.B. Cushing Stadium from May 28-31.
The Bears are set to battle for spots in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as those who finish in the top-12 of their respective events will lead the way to Eugene, Oregon, for the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Baylor women sit among the elite nationally, as the women are slated at No. 6 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's rankings. Since week-by-week rankings began in 2008, this is the highest the BU women have been ranked heading into the NCAA First Round.
Baylor will be joined in College Station by over 100 schools from the West region. All athletes in attendance competing at the West Preliminary Round are ranked in the top 48 nationally in their respective events.
BEARS AT THE BIG 12s
BU stood out in Lawrence, Kansas as the women finished fourth and men ninth. This was the highest finish since 2022 for the women. Overall, Baylor earned three gold and five silver medals along with a multitude of All-Big 12 honors. Additionally, the Bears recorded 15 personal-best marks, 13 top-10 program marks, five program records and one Big 12 meet record.
SWEEP, SWEEP, SWEEP
Baylor won big in the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor season awards as
Nathaniel Ezekiel and
Alexis Brown both won the Big 12 Performer of the Year while Brown also snagged the Female Scholar-Athlete award. This marks as only the fifth time since the voting began in 1997 that the same school earned Male and Female Performers of the Year. Brown, defending her 2024 outdoor award, was the first Baylor woman to earn Performer of the Year in back-to-back years. Ezekiel, having already won the honor in the indoor season, was the first Baylor man to earn Performer of the Year for the outdoor season since Trayvon Bromell in 2015 and the first male athlete since 2019 to earn Performer of the Year in both the indoor and outdoor season.
With Brown claiming both the Performer of the Year and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she became the first Baylor woman to win Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the voting began in 2013. Additionally, the graduate is only the second female in the Big 12 to win both Performer of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
